Meeting Summary – February 2013

The February meeting of the Mendocino Woodturners Guild was held Sunday Feb 10 at Russ’s shop. After the usual business, a short educational discussion was held. The main topic of discussion was regarding alternate techniques for drying wood. Techniques discussed included microwave drying and the use of alcohol. Steve Beckly discussed a vacuum chamber which he has built to dry wood.

Steve will keep us posted and updated on his success!. The web site will soon have links to articles related to these techniques.

Since the scheduled demonstrator could not make the meeting, Russ did a demo on hollow turning. He recently attended a one day workshop with Mike Jackofsky, a well know turner from southern California.

Russ turned a small hollow vessel with tools designed by Jackofsky and soon to be sold at Craft Supplies USA.

Next meeting is planned for April 14th at Russ’s shop, and the demo will be pierced vessels.
